  • Overview

    The Wholesale Area Manager (WAM) is a Field Operations Management role within SMO, Inc. works directly with the wholesale fuel Operators to effectively and efficiently support the business operations.  This role manages and coordinates all field related business activities that include A/R Management, Repair and Maintenance, site level image, site level technology (EPOS, etc.), and Operator issues and questions for a territory up to 40 units.  The position also is responsible for growing motor fuel sales, maintaining a bench of candidates for future business opportunities, signing new Open Business accounts, and delivering expected financial returns for the organization.

     

    This position requires an in-depth understanding of motor fuels retailing, auto repair operations, convenience store operations, small business financial counselling, safety, and technical competency that will support EPOS and back office operations.

     

    Success in this position will be measured by improved motor fuel gallons sold, improved site level financial performance, independent operator engagement and satisfaction, image inspection scores at or above targets, managing risk (A/R’s, damage claims, safety), and signing new business and adoption of SMO developed programs.

    Accountabilities

    • Maintain a strong and capable Operator bench so to maximize the sales opportunity and maintain a “no closed store” approach to continuing business operations.
    • Provide outstanding customer support to our Wholesale Operator network and build strong customer relations built on integrity, trust, and mutual respect.
    • Effectively manage risk through the policies, procedures, and guidelines established by the Company.  This includes A/R management, issuing credit, approving new Operators, managing damage claims through collection, etc.
    • Effectively communicates key programs, initiatives, and information to both internal and external stakeholders, and seeks adoption.
    • Follows through on administrative requests in a timely manner and follows up on all issues through resolution, independently.  Seeks support when needed.
    • Networks with existing and potential new Operators and actively solicits new business to SMO. 
    • Achieve annual Operational Goals (Performance) for assigned territory to include motor fuel volume, fuel margins, rental income, expenses, and EVA.
    • Achieve outstanding image inspection results at or above network average; that is consistently above Supplier inspection scores for the market and region.
    • Ensure no bad debts, full compliance with Operator insurance requirements, and full collection of A/R balances and damage claim losses.
    • Solicit, negotiate and sign a minimum of one new Open account annually
    • Ensure full compliance with all SMO identified programs and promotions
    • Ensure no closed stores, at any time, by maintaining a strong Operator bench.

    Required Qualifications

    • High School Diploma with an AA or BS degree preferred
    • 5-years experience in an Operations Role. Industry experience preferred.
    • Multi-unit management experience or consulting experience required.
